Free pattern: Montague

Montague pattern previewTop-down split-stitch hat knit in the round. Designed as a chemo cap for the Pretty in Pink contest/collection drive to benefit cancer charities.

Skill level: Intermediate (knitting in the round, knitting with double-pointed needles, increasing in a slightly tricky stitch pattern)

Yarn: Lion Brand “Micro Spun,” 1 skein
Needles: US#10.5 (6.5mm) dpns, 16″ US#10.5 circular (optional), US#3 (3.25 mm)
US 10½ / 6.5 mm)dpns or 16″ circular (Note: The metric needle sizes in the PDF aren’t correct, and I can’t get to the files right away to change them! Use the sizes given here if you’re going metric.)

    I’m having a difficult time with this split stitch thing, I’m not able to get anywhere with it. Perhaps if it could be explained better?

    I have scoured the internet trying to discover what a split stitch is and how to do it but with no luck. I would really love to make this hat and consider myself to be a pretty good knitter! Please explain :)
